Holiday Mayhem

I am covered in glitter. Except for the sardonically raised eyebrow, I look like Kimber the Good Fairy. Where did all this glitter come from you ask? Did I invade Tinker Bell's secret supply of pixie dust?

Ahem. No. I don't think anyone's allowed in Neverland who is over the age of fourteen--fifteen on the outside--and I'm well past that now. No, my glitter stylings come from shedding Xmas cards. And these weren't cheap cards, so what's the deal?

Obviously, I'm trying to get some holiday cards out...at least to the people whom I don't talk to very often, but the world is crazy. I'm working. I'm editing. I'm trying to get things in order for my book's February release. I'm trying to be social and have and attend parties... it's madness.

And on top of everything, I've run out holiday stamps or even the nondescript Forever stamps with the Liberty Bell. So, now I'm slapping on any stamp that I can find. Which means some people who have the envelope with "the deer in the winter woods" scene are going to have a bright yellow sunflower stamp in the corner. Sighing heavily. Coordinating stamps and envelopes is officially beyond me.

That's why I can't wait for Xmas to actually get here, when the stores and the post offices will be closed, and I'll finally get to kick back. Then I'm going to do nothing...except perhaps watch a few favorite holiday movies. Here's my want-to-watch list:

1. A Christmas Story (The ultimate holiday movie, full of wisdom imparted through wisecracks. Love it!)

2. Elf
(As far as I'm concerned, Will Farrell has created a new holiday classic.)

3. Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's stone
(Hey, there's Xmas in it! Harry gets the invisibility cloak as a Xmas present.)

4. The Year Without A Santa Clause (It's the one where the seasons are at war. The Heat Miser's one of the main characters. You know it?)

Do you have any favorites holiday traditions or movies?

My personal faves are Nightmare Before Christmas and The Ref. Hope you get all that needs doing done.

Kelly,

I'm a Nightmare Before Xmas fan, too, but I've never seen The Ref. I'll have to add it into the queue.

Happy Holidays!

Your cards sound like my daughter's holiday dress. The skirt is gauzy pink with lots of glitter on it. She left a sparkly trail wherever she went on Thanksgiving. And you are far ahead of me on the Christmas cards. I have not even opened the boxes or pulled our the addresses yet.

The Ref is so funny - you have to see it! My personal favorites are March of the Wooden Soldiers and Miracle on 34 Street, and Christmas Carol.

Bethe,

I bet CeCe was adorable! I love seeing little girls dressed up in holiday dresses. We have so few formal occasions anymore. :)

Liz,

Okay, I've added The Ref to my Netflix queue on your and Kelly's recommendations. Can't wait to see it.

Hugs & stay warm!

came to your blog late (after the Christmas Holiday)last night courtesy Barnes & Noble but wanted to mention my love of "The Ref" (really anything with Kevin Spacey rates HIGH on my list) but a Christmas tradition at my house is watching the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" half hour cartoon where the mouse breaks the clock after writing to Santa that he is a fake. we watched it every year growing up and they show it every year on ABC family but this year I found it on DVD! Finally! Now it is a permanent member of the household!

The only other tradition we have is the elves coming on Christmas Eve with pajamas. I contact an "elf" who bangs on the door leaving a package with pajamas and cocoa for my kids to open and wear to bed. Every year they try to catch the elves and see who it is but have never succeeded lol!

Spaced -

I LOVE the idea of a pajama-and-cocoa-delivering elf! Can he come to my house, too? I love cocoa. ;)

I'll have to try to find the Twas The Night Before Xmas cartoon. I don't think I've ever seen it.

Also, I need to add another holiday movie to the list. One of my friends gave me HogFather, a movie based on the Terry Pratchett novel. I totally enjoyed it.
