PARAPALOOZA - Day 6

Southern Witch series Quote of the Day:

"All I needed was to drive the werewolves off, find Edie, cure Zach, and get a new job. Piece of cake. Well, a five-layer, two-days-in-the-making, and every-pan-in-the-kitchen-dirty Death By Chocolate Cake maybe."

* * *

I know several things about Dakota Cassidy.

First, she looks fabulous in a little black dress. (I met her very, very briefly at a cocktail party in Dallas)

Second, she's very generous. I'm pretty sure she was crazy busy with her own writing when my editor asked her if she'd be willing to read a book by a new author for a possible cover quote.

Third, she's got a great wry, self-deprecating humor that makes you want to have a million margaritas with her.

When I asked if her: "If you were a song from the 80's which would you be?" here's what she said...

"I'd like to say Like a Virgin is the song I'd be from the 80s, but that'd be a total lie. 'Cause I was no virgin. So I've decided on Let It Whip. See, I'm old--all my body parts whip around in one way or the other. :)"

I crack up every time I read that quote, and every time I read one of her books. She's great! Visit Dakota at www.dakotacassidy.com

Wonderfully talented, Sharie Kohler (who I've had margaritas with!) writes great paranormals under her name and fabulous bestselling historical romances under the pen name Sophie Jordan.

Recently, I asked Sharie which is her favorite villain from her books. Here's what she said:

"As a favorite villain, I would have to chose Darius from MARKED BY MOONLIGHT ... but then, I've begun to reform that naughty werewolf. He's destined to be the hero of his own book soon. Hmm, how about Jonah from my current release, TO CRAVE A BLOOD MOON? He's a pretty bad half-werewolf dude who actually tries to "off" the hero and heroine of TO CRAVE A BLOOD MOON. But hey, he has his reasons! ;) Actually both Darius and Jonah are reform-worthy. Personally, I believe the best villains are never all bad ... a great villain is always redeemable. You be the judge. Check out my series and let me know if villains Darius and Jonah are heroes in the making."

I would have to say that Faythe Sanders in Rachel Vincent's werecat series is my favorite shapeshifter. I like her because she is a kickbutt type person that takes nothing from anyone, even her family when they "know" best for her. But then she will curl up with sexy Marc and well...just enjoy herself and who would'nt want to curl up with Marc. :)

My favorite shapeshifter is Sam Merlot from Charlaine Harris's Sookie books. He is a "true" shifter so he can become anything and that's pretty awesome!

Oh fav shapeshifter, I have a huge crush on Clay from Kelley Armstrongs Otherworld books. He is just so insane, and made me like werewolves

Where to start! There are so many shapeshifters to be admired. Any of the dragons by Deborah Cooke, Delilah from Yasmine Galenorn, Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs all are strong beautiful fiesty women. I even love Angua from Terry Pratchett (not a romance LOL). But for my money, although I love Sherrilyn Kenyon (Vane, Fang & Fury Kattalakis) I would have to say Bowen MacRieve (Kresley Cole) lights my fire. Dark, Tortured, guilt ridden, angry and totally in denial but totally redeemable and lucious. Mmmmm yummy!

Going old-school for this one - Prince Morgon of Hed - the Riddle Master from Patricia McKillip's books (plus has lots of other magic). And maybe not "favorite", but the scariest fictional villain for me is Freddy Krueger because he can kill you in your dreams.

My answer combines the two: My favorite villain also happens to be a shapeshifter -Jareth, the Goblin King from Labyrinth. He's only doing evil because of / for Sarah. If she'd only make up her mind!

Happy Sunday, everyone!

One of my favorite villains of all time was the Mayor of Sunnydale from season three of Buffy.

One minute, he'd be like, "Faith, you know I don't like that kind of language." Then next, he'd say, "Now go kill these people."

Just an odd and entertaining combination that really worked.
Favorite shapeshifter? That would have to be Vane from Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Just something about him, mmm..

I mean, ahem.

Mercedes Thompson, from Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series.
She works she fights and she keeps her own council.
My favorite villain is Captain Hook from Peter Pan. In every story I've read with Hook in it, especially after watching the 2003 movie with Jason Issacs. I feel hard for his character. Hook is evil and cruel, but not always in a horrible way, more seductive if you think about it. He may have been written for a children s story but he has innuendo and villainy for us fantasy readers.

Favorite shifter? Definitely Sam Merlotte...I just wanna hug him and squeeze him and take him home!

Favorite villain? OMG, there are so many...but Cruella De Ville has a special place in my evil little heart.

I love shifter stories, so I have tons of favorites. Since I just got thru reading Nalini Singh's, Psy/Changeling series, I will pick Lucas Hunter.
My favorite shapeshifter? Well that would be the sexy Dev Peltier from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter, one of the quads (the one with the sense of humor and man-whore)

My favorite villian? And the only villian to come to mind was Stryker. First villian to still be bad and plus have a book (that I'm aware of!)

Answer #1
My favorite shapeshifter would have to be Sam Merlot from True Blood! He's just so caring and protective over Sookie.. I want a guy like that. Not to mention, he's cute and has a mysterious air to him.

Amswer #2
My favorite villain would have to be Hannible Lecter. He's so confused, and yet has his mind set at what he wants to do. The poor man is haunted by his childhood and what happened. He couldn't prevent it, but he doesn't seem to understand that, and I feel sorry for him. In a way, his emotions is the real villain to him and everyone around him. Hannible also has a powerful air, which I'm drawn to and find sexy. I'd comfort him on his past.. *wink wink*

My favorite shapeshifter is Sam from the Sookie Stackhouse books.

My favorite fictional villain is Tinkerbell. I know most look on her as a hero but that is part of her villainy. She got the lost boys to try to shoot down the "Wendybird" (who needed it because Wendy is a trifling beeyotch), she gave up the location of the hideout to Captain Hook and garnered the sympathy of millions by "sacrificing" herself when, as a villain, she knew she was in no real danger.

I recognize the above is simply my opinion and follow my great grandma's advice that opinions are like bumholes: everyone has one and they sometimes stink. Tink as villain is my longtime theory but I love, love, love her. I have shelves of her dolls, a tattoo of her and my bathroom is Tink (which my 3 teenage sons think is awesome - NOT lol)

My favorite shifter right now is Michael Quinn in Rhyannon Byrd's "Edge of Danger"; he facinated me as he changes into a raptor - how cool is that :-) My favorite villain has to be Lord Voldemort as he did so many bad deeds I lost count - to me he is evil personified. I wish you had asked for favorite witch as I'd have to say Tammy Jo Trask. I can't wait to read more about her. She is simply delightful! Keep her coming (quickly please) LOL Cheryl

My fave villain is Darth Vadar. Love the voice, his overwhelming presence, the power he exerts.

The shapeshifter that totally changed my world from the first story I read in the Sookie Stackhouse series is Sam Merlot. What an amazing character!

Shana Abe's drakon series is fantastic also! I love the characters who change into dragons. I fell in love with the worlds she created. There is so much emotion that you actually feel what the characters are feeling.

Really what's better than the Disney villains. I love Jafar from Aladdin.. Cinderella's evil step mother.. Scar in The Lion King.

I also love when characters in books start out "villain-like." Like Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse books.. sexy and dangerous but turns out and grows to be the opposite of the villain.

Being a Sookie Stackhouse series nut my fav shape shifter is Sam too.

My favorite fictional villian is Sethos from the Peabody & Emerson series by Elizabeth Peters. Over time Sethos grows from a master criminal to a multilayered character with many complicated relationships to the Peabody / Emerson family.Still, I've never forgotten the early scene when Peabody attacks him & he runs away screaming.

My favorite shifter is Sam Merlotte from the Sookie Stackhouse novels.
Adam from the Mercy Thompson series is my normal answer. He's one of the toughest, sweetest characters I've ever read. Then I reread Gena Showalter's Playing with Fire and remembered how yummy Rome was. Today, though, I finished Linda Robertson's Vicious Circle, and Johnny is nipping at their heels. I can't choose between them!
