For those who asked, Edith Cavell was a nurse. During WWI she helped Allied soldiers escape occupied Belgium into the neutral Netherlands. She was captured by the Germans and did not deny her crimes.

When other countries, including the United States, implored Germany not to kill her, a prominent military man said he regretted that he did not have other old English women to kill. Despite this, she never succumbed to a message of hatred.

She was executed by firing squad. Her image and name were used on war posters and did help raise sentiment against Germany. The outcome of the war is known.

I liked this quote because I think it's very easy to have animosity toward an enemy, but, after a war, the only way to a lasting peace I think is for us to lay down our anger with our weapons.
