PARAPALOOZA - Day 4

The Day of the Dieties?

Today's a young adult-friendly day! Tera Lynn Childs is a young adult author, Kelly McCullough's hero, Ravirn, is in college, and I know that I've got some teen readers of the Southern Witch series!

Also interestingly, both Tera's OMG series and Kelly's WebMage series feature Greek gods. So far, no Greek gods have turned up in the Southern Witch series...but you just never know when one might.

Southern Witch series - Quote of the Day

"Hey there, God. It's me again. Tammy Jo. I guess you've probably seen what's going on here in Duvall, but in case you've been too busy in some other part of the world to notice, I have to mention that I've kind of brought on an accidental Armageddon down here." She paused. "Yep. Sorry about that."

* * *

In addition to being a super talented Young Adult author, Tera Lynn Childs's one of the best road trip passengers of all time. If you scan back through my blogposts, you'll probably find a tale of our misadventures in Austin. (All I'm gonna say is: Down with rain and flat tires. Up with cupcakes!)

I recently asked Tera if she could hang out with a Greek god, who would she choose? Here's what she said:

"If I could hang out with a Greek god it would be Athena because she is the whole package. She's a jock with a brain, combining wisdom and competitive athletic ability with a patronage of the arts and industry. If she were a character in one of my books, she'd be the student body president, captain of the soccer team, and a blue ribbon-winning artist. What college wouldn't recruit her? As long as she wasn't too much of a know-it-all I think she'd be great fun to be around." - Tera Lynn Childs

I'd like to hang out with Athena, too. Although Apollo's beautiful, and Ares is the ultimate bad boy so hanging with him could be exciting as well. (Kimber thinking...) One thing I can say is that I'd hang with any of the Greek gods (yes, even Hades) if I knew Tera was going to be there because we always have hilarious adventures together.

Kelly McCullough and I are the best of cyberbuddies. We met in the comments of a our wonderful friend Nancy Pickard's blog, and Kelly and I sparked a friendship. Once we were each sprinting toward the finish of our respective novels and after we finished, we cyber-celebrated with Nancy & our other friends at her place. (Such good times!)

Of course, any friendship doe have its limits. When Kelly tried to rise up against the cats who own him, I was forced to be the cat's representative. Of course, it wasn't my fault that I had to side with the United Feline Overlords (a.k.a. UFO) because as most cat owners know, the UFO collective is secretly in charge of the world. Anyway, Kelly's books are great. Hercules meets Hackers, I say. When I asked him what song he'd be from the 80s or 90s, he said...

"If I were a song from the 80s or 90s, I would be Nowhere Fast by Fire Inc. from the Streets of Fire soundtrack because it's exactly the right mix of blazingly fast, unrepentantly silly, and deadly serious. Oh, and it really rocks." ~ Kelly McCullough

Kelly definitely rocks, too!

If you'd like to visit Tera at her site, you can find her at www.TeraLynnChilds.com And if you'd like to visit Kelly at his site, you can find him at www.kellymccullough.com

If you'd like to win a signed copy of Barely Bewitched from the Southern Witch series, an autographed copy of Oh.My.Gods by Tera Lynn Childs, and a copy of Cybermancy by Kelly McCullough, please drop by in the comments and answer this:

1.) If you were a descendent of a Greek god who would it be?

Comments

I would want to be a Muse. Because of my love to singing and music, it would be wonderful to help others with the same passion. Or I would want to be Aphrodite. I have the pretty red hair, but I would like a sexy figure to drive the Hubby crazy.

Laura,

You know that I'm a fan of the muses, too. :)

I would be a descendant of Bacchus and one of the Bacchae but more on the theatre side than the wine side.
spacedkane said…
I know she was a Gorgon not a Goddess but I'd like to be a descendant of Medusa (only with control and not in the vicinity of a descendant of Perseus)

BTW congrats to day 1 & 2 winners of the books in Parapalooza so far :)

I would choose to be a decedent of Demeter, goddess of grain and fertility, also called mother earth.
Blodeuedd said…
Hm, well thinking about how I am I would surely be a descendant of the muses too.

But if I could pick, I would be the descendant of Ares cos he is just so cool ( I blame it on Xena)

I would be descended from Hecate, since she is the goddess of witches.

Actually, now that you mention it...according to legend in the Icelandic side of our family, we are Thorsteinson's and are therefore descendants of Thor. His Greek counterpart would be Zeus...

I think I would be descended from Poseidon. I love the water. I have 2 salt-water aquariums at home and one is a coral reef. They are so beautiful! I've also been told I have a bit of a temper and I read somewhere once that Poseidon did too.

Good luck to all!

P.S. - Hey Erin Nappier - Love you!!

I would be a daughter of Nyx!

P.S. Hey Rebecca Sigmon- I love you too and best of luck!!
Tough one! I think I would have to be the child of both Hades and Persephone (which works.. because they were married sorta). I love nature (Persephone-ish), but get me upset, and I can be a terror (definitely Hades). Also, side note.. I love parentheses.

Thanks!

Nyx, primordial goddess of the night

Yes, I did read the HON series. I actually read through a list of greek goddesses and this caught my eye, partially because lately I'v been up so late reading.

I would love it to be Athena or Aphrodite. This is a tough choice, lol!

I think I'd like to be Eris, goddess of discord, because I like stirring things up.

Please count me in! I had never heard of Tera Lynn Childs and Kelly McCullough but their books sounds great.
Yay for another great giveaway!

Being the descendant of the Goddess Eris would be fantastic! Heir of discord, heir to Discord. Alas, being a descendant of Eris would be impossible, since she was a virgin goddess.

Barring that, having the blood of one of the Furies (preferably Tisiphone) flowing through my veins would be mighty cool as well. Having just a piece of their fighting prowess, speed, power, and cunning...it would take my swordsmanship to another level.
Daelith said…
I would like to be a descendant of either Nemesis or Nyx.

If I could pick a Norse god, then it would be Thor.
Laurie Powers said…
I would want to be a decendant of Isis. A goddess of motherhood and fertility (not that I need anymore kiddos in this house), she is also the goddess of simplicity and protector of children.

I would want to be a daughter of Aphrodite. :)

I would like to be Artemis. I enjoy the country and she was a hunter, among other things.

Poseidon. I love the ocean! I love horses! I would have risen from the sea with human legs. However when I returned to the sea I would have a tail. Meljmermaid. lol!

I was going to say Medusa as well. I'd love to see my mohawk transformed into snakes.

I love the comments to this question. Nyx would definitely be cool as would Bacchus. But I would have to pick Athena. I love to study and read.

I'd be a descendant of Artemis; goddess of the hunt, wild things, and of course the moon.
What witch isn't fond of the moon?
My luck's a little low & it's day 4,stirring cauldron 4x as long today.

If I could be related to any Greek God I would pick Athena. She is a strong woman and knows how to get what she want. She has a cool brother Apollo which coming from a family with only sisters makes me jealous. Athena is a cool chick.

Hypnos, the god of sleep, because I like to visit his realm. On the other hand, I'm also a nightowl, and being decended from Hypnos would make night (Nyx) my "grandmother".

Definitely Aphrodite!

Before I answer, I wanted to give kudos to Kelly McCullough. I just finished MythOS and have become a total fan girl. : )

I would say Hecate because she was the Big, Bad Protector. She was both sides of the coin--a figure you could use to scare your kids into behaving and a goddess you could go to for protection. Very much like Kali.

I am sure this is breaking some rule, but I would want to be a descendant of Athena and the Muses. I could not live without art, science and wisdom and definitely would want to inspire others to do and create great things.

Btw, finished your new book and can't wait for the next one. I'm still rooting for tall, dark, and magical (i.e. Bryn Lyons)!

Oh, I would LOVE to be a child of Nyx because I love everything to do with the magic of the NIGHT - seeing the beautiful starry heavens, the peace and quiet, - ever since I was an adolescent I'd love to stand outside in the summer in the wee hours of morning and watch the skies (yes, I WAS a strange child - LOL)

Would like to be a descendant of Athena.

I would defnitely choose Aphrodite as she was the most attractive goddess of Mount Olympus. She was the goddess of love, beauty and eternal youth. She also aroused desire in gods and humans as well as birds and beasts. In addition, she was connected with the death/rebirth of nature and human beings.

I would also say Aphrodite. thanks for the contest.

I would want to be Eros, even though I'm not of the right gender to be so, so that I could spread the love that the world so despritly needs. Also, Eros was depicted to be beatutiful, and be very desirable, and let's face it, who doesn't want to be considered so? *looks around* Yeah, thought so.. But I would love to know I was helping people with one of the hardest things there seems to be, and that's falling in love, for real.

oh wow, what a question...
I would like to be a child of Hypnos - I love sleeping and dreaming ;) and wouldn't it be wonderful to explore the whole world in this way?

I certainly wouldn't mind being a decendant of Deimos. I have no why, but it would be cool to be related to the personification of dread.

I'd have to go with Apollo. I couldn't imagine a world without music.

I would have to see Eirene the Goddess of Peace and the Spring time. I would love to go interupt these wars and be able to ask what are we fighting for? Peace and Love is all that any God, Goddess or Divinity want for this world.

Another day full of interesting responses that I enjoyed reading so much!!

While I think it would be lovely to be descended from Aphrodite or the muses so that I could inspire people to love each other and be creative, today the news set me off so I think that if I were descended from a Greek goddess, I'd like it to be Nemesis.

You see, I saw that story about the woman who was held captive as a sex slave for 18 years after she was kidnapped at the age of 11. I read about how her mother would take a week off work at Xmas and on the anniversary of the abduction so she could stay home and cry.

It made me so furious at the perpetrator, and I thought, "I would love to make that guy pay for what he did."

So yes, Nemesis, the goddess of retribution...pedophiles beware.
Kimberly Frost said…
For those who wanted to be descended from Nyx (and I guess Nemesis is too)...

"There also stands the gloomy house of Night; ghastly clouds shroud it in darkness. Before it Atlas stands erect and on his head and unwearying arms firmly supports the broad sky, where Night and Day cross a bronze threshold and then come close and great each other."
(Hesiod, Theogony, 744 ff.)
Lori T said…
I think that Nyx would be the one for me.

I have always loved the relationship between Hades and Persephone. I always thought that he didn't really trick her into eating those seeds, she wanted to do it. I would like to be a decent of them. Mom would be gone for so many months out of the year, and dad would be missing her so he would probably give me anything I wanted.
