Green arrows...not optional.

"I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me." Fred Allen

I do not have a hangover, but this kitty has an expression that I can relate to after driving around the city today. I think that, by and large, moving cars should short out cell phones. Many people can barely drive or park or think as it is.

Today, I saw a man swerve randomly into someone else's lane as he tried to make a turn without bobbling his cell phone. About 60 seconds later, I was trapped behind someone who for the purposes of this post, we'll call Annoying Idiot With Cell (AIWC). Being mid-conversation, AIWC could not be bothered to take the green arrow's perfectly reasonable suggestion that she make a left turn from a lane that was designed especially for the purpose. So we just sat there. And sat there. Finally, I honked to remind AIWC that the lack of a parking meter was not accidental on the city's part.

Arg! Just because I didn't have anywhere to be, doesn't mean I didn't want to get there in a hurry. I think I may have to buy a big car and hire a driver, so that I can more effectively pretend that the other drivers on the road don't exist.

How was your week?

I agree, Kimber. Many people can't drive WITHOUT the distractions - I wonder what lies ahead...glad you made it home safely! I guess we should be glad 90 year olds don't use cell phones...

Found a place to live in CO, and am now in Idaho seeing old friends before returning to CO to unpack and get settled. And then STOP driving and START writing again!

It's going to snow all weekend here - I ain't leaving the house!! Hope you have a good one.

For my writer incarnation, it was a good week. More than 5,000 words written. (I'm nearing the end of the novel and my creative process knows it!) In the rest of my world, things are okay. Not fantastic, but okay.

Morning, all! It's a bright warm day dawning here. Normally, that would be a good thing. But right now, the a/c in the building is not yet on (that usually happens end of April) and my windows are still sealed shut because of the brickwork.

Let's just say the greenhouse effect has been proven. ::g::

Off to errands after a while, and then I'm back to start outlining Book 3.

Kimber - a;dlkfjadflkajs!! Those drivers make me insane. DC is rife with them, not to mention the ones that just *must* be playign with their Crackberry in traffic.

Sigh.

Beth, great that you found a place to live! Been enjoying your pics.

Paul - congrats on writing accomplishment!

Morning all.

Just a drop-in and drop off for me today -- I'm off in just a short time to go help my mom get ready for the Passover seder.

Here's my drop-off [LINK].

This picture, taken at an old abandoned cabin in the woods, seems to call out for a story about Janey at those steps in 1948 and 2008 and I'm hoping one of you stellar folks will write me one. I hope when I get back tonight, I'll find out it was inspiring.

(Oh here's the cabin itself for a little additional inspiration. [LINK])
Hey, life is finally starting to calm down and smooth out. I had time for a major discretionary project. My huge front porch is two rounds of painting and one screen door hanging away from screened in and thus possible to use in summer without being carried away by mosquitoes. Hopefully this time next week I will be out there writing--it's still a little cold on the north side of the house where my screen office is set up.

Beth -

I'm so glad that you found a place to live. Well, done! I hope you stay warm during the snowy weather. :) And hope you're back to writing very soon.

Paul - 5,000 words! You rock.

I didn't get any new writing done this past week, but I did get about 200 pages of "first pass" editing done on the WBW sequel.

Maria,

I know about the greenhouse effect, too. The second-floor master bedroom faces the street and is unshaded by trees. On warm clear days, the Houston sun bakes that side of the house. Luckily, I control when the AC comes on because it hit 80 degrees outside yesterday.

Andi -

Lovely pictures as always! I do wonder about Janey...who she was and what she was like. Unfortunately, I'll have to let those thoughts percolate since I have an out-of-town guest coming in this afternoon and there is still dusting and straightening to do.

Have a wonderful seder dinner!

Kelly - Your new porch sounds wonderful! You'll have to send a picture to post when you get it all finished, so that we can meet up there cyberly-speaking for tea and coffee. Speaking of which, I'm off to get a bagel and some tea before I get more work done here.

Hugs to everyone, and see you later. :)

Hi everyone! Thanks, Maria. Congrats, Paul and Kimber. I'm jealous of your warmth, ladies. And hiya, Kelly - good to see you! Am jealous of your summer office. You'll be out there soon enough. Just a few flakes here so far...still waiting for the blizzard to hit. Maybe it'll veer elsewhere. And yay for an andif pic!

Enjoy the weekend, y'all!

{Guess what I bought today, Kimber! :-) }

Beth - What did you buy?

It's something I'm bringing to WRW for you!! :-) To make one of our evenings a little sweeter...

Hee hee hee. Looking forward to that!

Okay shuffling off to entertain guest. See everyone next weekend. Have fun!

Beth, I thought maybe you were going to say you bought a snowmobile? :-P

I spent part of the morning cleaning out the fireplace insert (preparing it for its traditional off-season role as a plant stand) and then we spent the entire afternoon here spending money. We got a new lawn mower and a compost bin.

Andi, if it wasn't 11:30 pm, I might have been able to come up with something. Maybe tomorrow, after I've had a night to sleep on it, Olga will go "do I haff to do everyting?" and hand me something to write down. ;-)

I'll try to swing by tomorrow, in between christening the lawn mower & starting a batch of homebrew....

Note to self: Saturday is not the best day to choose for asking writers, who are just like everybody else and enjoy a break from working, to do some work. :)

Hope everybody had a great day.

Morning, Far -

As usual, sounds like you are keeping your house up beautifully. I had lots of projects over the past week, because I had let things pile up and needed to do EVERYTHING before out-of-towners arrived. ;)

Life is such tricky balance. Hope you're able to get some writing done soon. :)

Wait a minute...this thread isn't about DC comics crimefighter Green Arrow. Darn, all those witty bon mots gleaned from 30+ years of reading comic books are now wasted.

Well at least I can agree that there is a place for people who drive and talk on the cell phone. I believe Shepherd Book called it "The Special Hell".

I don't think I've ever even heard of Green Arrow. I vaguely remember that there was a Green Lantern, but don't know much about him.

What were the Green Arrow's powers?
Anonymous said…
He didn't have any real powers. He was just really good with a bow and had a lot of special arrows(Smoke Cloud arrow, Handcuff arrow, Boxing Glove arrow...seriously.)
